[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]PERSONALITY & BIOGRAPHY
[attr="class","hopelovetop"]
it can get a bit into someone's head, all that vanity and beauty and glory when you're one of the best. you were a watcher, a glorified soldier, and you were one of the most prized warriors in your garrison before you joined raphael. of course you were, what with your chiselled face and your golden hair and your pretty wings. they were the colour of a clear night sky, do you remember? your wings gave the northern lights their look, because they were beautiful green and blue and purple and black, no feather quite the same as another. when you ruffled them, it was like the rippling of heaven itself. with your glittering sword and your sparkling eyes, it could look like you were the god of the night itself, a symbol of both peace and darkness, depending on who was looking.
[break][break]
perhaps it was all that praise, all that glory, all that confidence and adoration going to your head. a pretty head it might have been, but easily lulled into believing you were great. you loved people loving you, and when those daughters of men couldn't keep their eyes off you, smiling shyly, you couldn't help yourself. you couldn't have ever helped yourself. you were like a god to them, a vision of perfection and beauty. when they whispered secrets in their eyes and ran their fingers down your arms, of course you had no choice. you never had any choice. you may have been strong on the outside, but on the inside you were weak. you lost to temptation. and the worst part was that you brought others down with you.
[break][break]
it was supposed to be just a joke, a teasing of some sort. you were like a big brother to the others, and you knew how much they admired you. strong, confident gadreel, a prized warrior but also a beloved friend. you had been caring, and affectionate, as much as angels ever were, and the others warmed to you. trusted you. believed you. so when you - and four of your other brothers - teased the rest, there was hardly a chance. they had no choice, either. they wanted to be like you, and even though some may have had whispers in their mind that they weren't supposed to, one look at your bright smile and teasing eyes, and they were hooked. you had gotten away with it once already, you'd said. no evil had smite you down, you'd said. they were warm and loving, you'd said. nothing would happen, you'd said.
[break][break]
so when it did happen, you were the amongst the first to be punished. the other angels censured you, tortured you, killed your sons in front of you. it pained you and tore your mind in two, because you did deserve it, but at the same time you didn't. you had been full of self-righteous indignation, believing that you shouldn't have to be punished because you were the glory star of the watchers. you were loved by the angels, were you not? you were respected by the angels, were you not? then how could those very same angels slice you and dice you before sending you to that pit? you stung with the betrayal and grief, and you wanted your revenge. but when you realised there was no escape after centuries turned to millenia, you sagged, defeated.
[break][break]
some of your fellow fallen watchers sided with you. they were the ones who really looked up to you, adored you. younger than you. they believed that the great gadreel, the wall of god, could pull them out of the pit, save the day, laugh and joke and tease with them as he'd done for centuries before. but those watchers were outnumbered by the others who blamed you. it was your fault, you brought this temptation upon them, you promised that nothing would happen.
[break][break]
it was maybe because you didn't beat yourself up like the others did. maybe you were too self-righteous and denying your own guilt. maybe it was because you tried to turn the blame on the daughters of men - a sensitive topic and a bad move, considering most of the other watchers actually loved their wives and children. they hadn't been like you, enjoying the spoils of god's creation, drowning in hedonism and enjoying more than your fill. they had fallen for love, they believed, while you had fallen for lust. and they hated you for what you did, and your lack of repentance. they believed you didn't care about the daughters of men, and the children that were born because of you. they were mostly true.
[break][break]
you became a rather selfish little bastard, didn't you? but unlike lucifer, who fell because he loved god too much, you fell because you didn't love god enough. pride got to you, lust got to you, greed got to you. you were repeatedly held up to the pole and flogged, a cowing example of the effect of sins. when they talked about satan, they meant lucifer, of course, but you had done enough yourself to achieve that title in your own right. you became a satan, too. from high-flying watcher, joy of your garrison, you became another lost and trapped angel in the pit. they tell stories about you, you know, always with a shaking head and a warning finger: do not let temptation in.
